Verify the manufacturer, exact model and certification scope. A brand name, distributor certificate or logo on a quotation does not identify every approved product configuration.
What do you need to answer “is this UL Listed?”
Start with the manufacturer, exact model or part number, product category and relevant marking. Search the certification organisation’s records and match the entry to the proposed item. Confirm any limitations on size, configuration or intended use shown in the record.
UL Product iQ provides product certification and guide information. FM Approvals provides Approval Guide records for approved products. UL listing and FM approval are separate certifications; confirm the evidence required by your project rather than using the terms interchangeably.
Does a certified brand mean every item is certified?
No. A company can supply many product families with different models and documents. A logo in a brochure does not identify which configuration is covered. Ask the supplier to show the relevant record for the actual line item offered.
Also distinguish distributor authorization from product certification. Compliance BD publishes its supplied NAFFCO distributor certificate so customers can inspect that relationship. You should still request the relevant product documents for the individual pump, valve, door or other item in your order.
Which ratings, sizes and part numbers should match?
Build a comparison sheet with the specified item, offered manufacturer and model, required performance and supporting document reference. Resolve differences before approval or purchase. Identify accessories and assembly components that form part of the proposed configuration.
For a door, the assembly details matter; for a pump or valve, use the applicable equipment ratings and documents. A maximum value shown for a product range should not be presented as the rating of every individual item. Keep the accepted submittal with procurement and handover records.

If a particular record or report is unavailable, resolve that gap with the project reviewer before purchase. Do not infer certification from a similar-looking item or another manufacturer’s report. The goal is a traceable match between the specification, accepted proposal and delivered equipment.
