Which fire alarm cable documents are needed for a project submittal?

Product documentationBy Compliance BD Ltd.3 min read

Ask for the exact cable datasheet, relevant certification and required test reports. Check shielding, conductor details and fire performance against the system and project specification.

Project drawings used to coordinate fire alarm cable routes and documentation

What fire alarm cables come with datasheets and test reports?

Ask the supplier for documents covering the exact manufacturer, cable type and part number in the quotation. A submittal may require a product datasheet, relevant listing information, specified fire-performance evidence and batch-related documents where the project requires them. Confirm availability before ordering.

A generic catalogue page or a report for another cable is not sufficient evidence for the offered item. Prepare a document register that maps each BOQ line to the proposed part number and supporting files. Have the project reviewer identify any missing information.

Is fire alarm cable shielded?

Shielding is a construction feature, not something to assume from the words fire alarm cable. Read the datasheet for conductor size, number of cores, screen construction and other required characteristics. Match the proposed cable to the alarm equipment manufacturer’s instructions and the design.

For loop or network circuits, ask the designer to confirm the electrical requirements using the selected panel and connected devices. Cable route length and system limits belong in that review. Do not substitute a cable simply because the conductor diameter looks similar.

Are flame-retardant and fire-resistant cable the same?

They describe different fire-performance objectives. Evidence for limiting flame spread does not by itself demonstrate circuit operation during fire. Identify the specific performance required by the project and request the documents that support it.

UL explains that fire-resistive cable systems are assessed with defined installation conditions. A cable marking alone does not establish the performance of every installed arrangement. For a specified circuit-integrity requirement, review the applicable system documentation as well as the cable datasheet.

How can you check UL listing and delivery documents?

UL recommends checking cable certification markings and confirming the relevant information in Product iQ. Match the manufacturer and product identification to the certification records. Treat independent test evidence and certification as separate documents with their own scope.

At delivery, compare the supplied reel labels and part numbers with the accepted submittal. Record any substitution for review before installation. Keep the relevant documents with the project handover records so future maintenance teams can identify the installed cable.

Request a cable quotation from Compliance BD

Send the cable schedule, lengths, panel details, required performance and submittal checklist to our Bangladesh team. State whether your enquiry includes supply only or routing, installation, testing and handover. Ask for the exact proposed brand and part number rather than a promise covering every product in a catalogue.

Our Dhaka and Chattogram offices can discuss the cable enquiry alongside your wider detection and alarm scope. Compare quotations using the same cable requirements and supporting documents. Confirm current availability, delivery and pricing for the specific order.
