An alarm check valve combines a check-valve function with a waterflow alarm arrangement in a wet sprinkler system. Learn what to check before selecting the valve and trim.

What does an alarm check valve do?
An alarm check valve is used in a wet pipe sprinkler arrangement to allow supply water into the system, resist reverse flow and provide a path to operate waterflow alarms. The exact operation and alarm trim depend on the selected manufacturer and model.
For example, Tyco describes the AV-1-300 as a wet-system waterflow alarm valve that operates electric or hydraulic alarms under sustained flow. That product example explains the function; its specifications should not be applied to every valve sold as an alarm check valve.
Is an alarm check valve the same as a normal check valve?
No. A normal check valve provides a one-way flow function. An alarm valve assembly also has the connections and trim required for its specified alarm arrangement. Replacing one with the other requires review of the system design and the applicable equipment documents.
Similarly, a wet-system alarm valve should not be confused with a dry pipe or deluge valve. Identify the system type before requesting a replacement. Send a clear photograph of the nameplate and existing trim together with the installation drawings if available.
Which size, pressure rating and accessories are needed?
Use the design documents to identify nominal size, connection type, installation orientation and required pressure rating. Confirm the valve model and the trim supplied with it. A bare valve body and a complete assembly may have very different quotation scopes.
Ask the responsible engineer to confirm any retard chamber, pressure switch, water motor alarm and other accessories for the actual arrangement. Product dimensions and part numbers must come from the proposed manufacturer documents. Do not identify a replacement solely by its appearance.

How do you arrange local supply and maintenance support?
Send Compliance BD your sprinkler drawings, BOQ and existing valve details. Our team can discuss valves and accessories alongside hydrant, sprinkler and installation requirements for your Bangladesh facility.
Agree delivery, installation, testing and handover responsibilities. Maintenance or replacement that affects an operating fire system needs the facility’s impairment procedures and qualified personnel. Include those coordination requirements in the work scope before site work begins.
Manufacturer reference
Read the selected manufacturer’s current datasheet and trim drawings. This reference is an example of a wet-system alarm valve, not a claim that every offered valve has the same approvals.
Discuss your project with our team.
Share your drawings, BOQ and required scope with our Dhaka or Chattogram office.
